Send Encrypted emails using the Protected Trust Add-in for Outlook

Protected Trust Email Encryption is an email encryption framework that enables organizations to securely communicate electronic data via a simple user experience. One method of sending encrypted messages using Protected Trust is to send from your Microsoft Outlook application using the Protected Trust add-in:

If you do not have the Protected Trust Add-in installed, see our article: Install the Protected Trust Add-in for Outlook
  1. When the Protected Trust Add-in for Outlook is installed, a lock icon will show in the top left corner when composing new messages, forwards or replies. When the lock icon is in the lock position the message will be sent through Protected Trust encryption service instead of your normal email provider.

  2. Compose your message, attaching any files you need to send

  3. Click Send

  4. If your recipient has an account with Protected Trust, the message will immediately send and the recipient opens the message using the password they registered their account with.

If your recipient does NOT have an account with Protected Trust, you will be prompted on how you would like to verify their identity(see Recipient Identity Verification Methods further below)

  5. Once you have chosen your verification method, click Send Now
